A corollary is also important and true: many institutions that support research do not appreciate the 70% or 80% relative investment in development that is required to produce or enhance the product that will be studied.  Recognition and support of such development in the context of research is typically needed.  We should continue to emphasize and foster this.  Mike</description>

Barriers to the use of enabling technologies in the clinical domain are many, one of which is the culture change related to the delivery of healthcare services. Technology is not the solution, but rather it is an enabler if used appropriately. I would suggest that Clinical Informatics and its transformational base in healthcare delivery should aim to improve patient care and outcomes, certainly a complex topic. I believe that this objective should be &quot;front and center.&quot;</description>
